Pilot Pete is a beary special bear cub indeed! This little cub has been specially produced for Cornwall Air Ambulance and with every bear cub purchased at £48, £20 of this goes towards the Cornwall Air Ambulance Heli Appeal.
Taking to the skies in 1987, Cornwall Air Ambulance was the first air ambulance in the UK. It has now completed more than 28,000 missions, saving countless lives. Cornwall Air Ambulance is on scene in just 12 minutes on average in mainland Cornwall and less than 30 minutes on the Isles of Scilly. The paramedic aircrew provide pre-hospital critical care at the scene of the incident and can go on to fly the patient to specialist hospital units in Cornwall, Devon or Bristol and even as far as Swansea in South Wales.
Cornwall Air Ambulance rely on their supporters for the running costs of £3.5 million a year. Anyone could need this service at any time whether they are a local or visiting tourist, young or old. For the half a million people who call Cornwall home, as well as the millions who visit the county, Cornwall Air Ambulance is a reassuring presence, and it’s all thanks to the bear-illiant support of people like you.
Charlie Bears knows first-hand how im-paw-tant the service that Cornwall Air Ambulance offers as back in October 2011 our very own bear cub, James, broke his leg whilst exploring a local beach. He was completely stranded and in a lot of pain, but luckily Cornwall Air Ambulance came to his
rescue and airlifted him to the nearest hospital for the vital care, which he required for his severe injury.
James has said this about getting to create such a paw-geous bear cub for such a well-deserving cause;
“It is such an honour and privilege to be working with the Cornwall Air Ambulance Heli Appeal and Charlie bears. The combination of a job I love and a charity that was there when I needed puts me in the luxury position of being able to do something positive and fulfilling. Thank you to Charlie Bears and Cornwall Air Ambulance for all that you do. I really hope that you love Pilot Pete as much as I do and that knowing when you give him his forever home you are contributing to a life- saving Charity that is so badly needed. Hugs, James x”
James then got to go and present the Charlie Bears Pilot Pete to the real Pilot, Pete Mclelland, which was a day which will always stay in his memory. After the beary presentation, James went on to say;
“Today was a special and emotional day for me. I met the real life Pilot Pete at the Cornwall Air Ambulance Base near Newquay who was the pilot on the day I was airlifted to hospital. It was such a privilege to be invited down and have my photo take with both Pete Mclelland (the real life Pilot Pete) and Pilot Pete. I hope you like the photos and thank you to Cornwall Air Ambulance, the crew on the day Pete Mclelland, Mick McLachlan and Mark Fuzsard, Charlie and Will and everyone who has been chosen by Pilot Pete – you are all my heroes!”
